Eastside Church Newsletter

Join us next week, September 9th, as we continue our series Practice Resurrection. Our head pastor Timothy Lloyd will explore Ephesians 5:1-20. If you’ve missed any of this series, you can catch up with our podcasts or sermon videos.

Did the service prompt any thoughts or questions for you? We believe that transformation happens in community and we’d like to keep the conversation going whether it’s about the music, confession, the artwork, sermon, or anything else. You can engage in a conversation by navigating to www.eastsideatl.org/sermons and selecting the current Sunday, via email – questions@eastsideatl.org, by commenting on the sermon post on our Facebook page, or by replying @eastsideumc to the twitter post.

We’ll be having another round of Covenant Membership classes in the near future. If you’ve been attending Oakhurst for awhile and would like to join our community through covenant membership, or if you have questions about it, email tim(at)eastsideatl.org or sign up at the info table.

A women’s bible study is starting Sept 4th at 10:00-11:15 am with childcare at the church. They’ll be studying “Believing God” by Beth Moore. If you are interested or have questions please contact Roxanne Melendez at roxanniemarie(at)hotmail.com.

The Oakhurst Women’s group is planning a “Lady’s Night Out” on Friday, September 21st at 7:30pm at the Iberian Pig on the Decatur Square. This is open to all women in the church. Please RSVP on Facebook, at the info table, or email Roxanne Melendez – roxanniemarie(at)hotmail.com.

As a young church, we’ve started to grow the “old fashioned” way. In the coming weeks & months several babies will be born. To help with these joyful, but big transitions the church community provides meals for the families. We’ve successfully provided many meals to families but would like to update our email list so we can continue to sustain this growing ministry. This is an easy way to bless our community. Contact Brit Eyster to get plugged in or to notify her that you’re still interested in helping with this ministry – brit.eyster(at)gmail.com

As our church grows, we continually need more volunteers to sustain vital ministries. One area that has a constant and immediate need is the Oakland Kids ministry. If you have kids or experience working with kids, please consider volunteering. Contact our Children’s Minister Lani Martz after church or email lani(at)eastsideatl.org, to get involved.

A new Growth Group is starting on Oct 1st @ 6:30pm at the church. This group will be led by Tyler & Natalie Jackson & will specifically focus on art & expressing yourself artistically. All are welcome! No prior experience required, just the desire to learn & grow. Please contact the Jackson’s by Sept 28th so they know how many to expect.  Contact Tyler Jackson for more info – Tyler(at)eastsideatl.org

Growth groups (formerly small groups) are the way we connect with each other at Oakhurst. If you are interested in learning more about or joining an Oakhurst Small Group please contact Elisabeth Lloyd at Elisabeth(at)eastsideatl.orgCurrently we have 6 groups that meet at various times and locations during the week. You can jump in at any time! Groups gather to fellowship, encourage one another, study scripture and pray for one another.

Eastside Church Arts Ministry is helping to start a public library in Ghana this year! We are seeking to collect as many books as possible by this October. The books can be any genre (and for any age), as an entire village will have access to this library.

We always need help on Thursday evenings from 6:30-7:30 to clean the church in preparation for worship. There is a sign up sheet at the information table for those able to contribute. This is an easy way to serve as well as to get connected with others in the church.

Mark your calendars for the Oakhurst Arts and Music Festival, October 13th10am-7pm right in the heart of Oakhurst! Eastside Church will have an integral part of the event by having two booths and the Oakhurst Community Music Collective will be playing two sets on the artist stage (from 11:00am-1:00pm). We’ll need people to represent the church at our booth. If you’d like to take a shift, contact Brit Eyster. – brit.eyster(at)gmail.com
