OUR STORY

Eastside Church is a United Methodist congregation on the east side of metro Atlanta. We gather for worship Sunday mornings at 10am in our 100+ year old historic sanctuary located in the eclectic, urban, neighborhood named East Atlanta. We are people who live, work, play and serve across the east side of metro Atlanta. Our congregation consists of individuals who together in community are seeking to partner with God’s mission of redemption revealed in Jesus’ life, death and resurrection.

Our church consists of individuals and families from east side neighborhoods such as Grant Park, Reynoldstown, Ormewood, O4W, Edgewood, Kirkwood, East Lake and Decatur as well as OTP neighborhoods like Tucker, Mableton and Covington. Our eclectic community consist of new Christians, spiritual seekers, skeptics-in-recovery, long-time believers and many who have felt ostracized by the church for all kinds of reasons. At Eastside we believe everyone has a seat at the Table regardless of their political affiliation, race, gender, sexual orientation, religious baggage, socioeconomic status, or where they find themselves on their journey with God. And to be clear, people of all sexual orientations and gender identities are welcome, included, and integrated in the life of our church.

At Eastside we strive to know God, love each other well, and embrace our neighborhood, city and world through service. Jesus brought good news - the news of a loving Creator - news that the presence of God is here – news that God wants the world, and us, to be whole - and we want to participate.

Our worship services reimagine our United Methodist heritage with a unique emerging expression of our Christian faith. We enact a historic liturgy while incorporating live artistic expression. We recreate ancient hymns of the Faith, while also embracing new ones - some of them authored right here at Eastside. And while our musicians embrace a diverse musical background, each week they offer a unified expression of worship that is sometimes acoustic, sometimes electric, but always sacred, passionate and authentic. Each week we sing, pray, read, confess, learn, and receive Holy Communion together. We welcome all to the Table.

Our kids spend time together in their own age groups led by our children’s minister and volunteers who love our young people. They learn about God in age appropriate ways. We invite our youth (5th – 12th grade) to a time of teaching during our worship gatherings twice a month. Youth meet in the youth room down the hall from the coffee bar and join their parents during Passing of the Peace.

Throughout the week, we gather together in Core Groups. These are smaller groups that meet in order to live out our Christian faith in community. Here we grow through fellowship, prayer, study of scripture, and service to our community.

We are continually cultivating social justice ministries both locally and internationally. Click here to learn about our ministry partners.

So whether you are new to the east side of metro Atlanta or a veteran of our great city, we hope you will come, taste and see. Because while we know that Eastside is not for everyone, we do hope we’re for you.
